Developmental Work



Plan of Procedures

Materials Processing
1. On sheet of 1/8” hardboard draw side of ramp as seen in the corresponding orthographic drawing.
2. Cut out ramp side with scroll saw and use as pattern the desired number of times.
3. If coping(s) is needed, use lineman pliers to trim metal rod to appropriate length.
4. Using the band saw / utility knife, cut the inner ramp ribs (2x4 if large ramp or balsa wood if smaller ramp) to appropriate length.
5. If ramp includes hubba(s), trim down 2x4 to appropriate size (either ¾” tall or 1.17” tall)
6. If ramp includes handrail(s), use lineman pliers to metal rod to appropriate length. In addition, cut ¾” rail supports for each rail to be created.
7. Measure and use snips to cut the aluminum flashing surface pieces for the ramp, which will be applied to the top surfaces of the ramp only.
8. Repeat steps 1 – 7 for all ramps
9. Use pliers to cut metal rods to 43 fence posts, with a height of 3.5”.
10. Use ruler to measure and mark holes around perimeter of base every 3”.
11. Use hand power drill to drill holes.
12. Use utility knife to trim wire mesh to a size of 3” x 127.5”.

Assembly Procedures
1. Using glue gun and/or power drill, attach inner ramp ribs to both side pieces, as shown in Figure 1-1.
2. If ramp includes coping(s), use glue gun to attach coping to appropriate location.
Figure 1-1 Sample ramp construction3. If ramp includes hubba(s), screw hubba(s) to sides of ramp.
4. If ramp includes handrail(s), glue supports to ends of rail and glue rail to designated locations.
5. Use glue to attach the aluminum flashing surface pieces to the riding surfaces of the ramp. Take care to see that all seams are neat and look professional.
6. In painting booth, spray ramp with one thorough coat of black paint.
7. Repeat steps 1 – 6 for all ramps.
8. Use gray spray paint to spray base with one thorough coat of paint.
9. Position all fence posts in predrilled holes and secure with glue.
Figure 1-2 Model fence construction10. Secure one end of mesh “fence” to a post with glue, and run mesh around park, securing it at each post with glue. (Figure 1-2)
11. When base is finished, glue all ramps to appropriate positions in park.
